A Pure Form of Storytelling Earns Best Social Media

Two and half years ago I was given direct advice to form a company.  The not so subtle guidance came from an Executive Director whom I admire personally and professionally.  I had spent more than a decade volunteering for various non-profit organizations in the community.  Serving others is a rewarding way to give back for a greater good.  It has always been a natural part of my adult life. 

In fact, my personal Twitter account was @theleaguelady because I had been so incredibly involved with the Junior League of Collin County since 2007. Branding is a key element to a company and I didn't want to scrap my current accounts and have to start over.  I decided to build on who I was at that moment and filed The League Lady, LLC documents with the Texas Secretary of State.

Mark Twain once said, "The secret to getting ahead is getting started."  And so it began all at once. I quit my job with the American Heart Association working on the Go Red for Women campaign.  I enrolled in a program at Southern Methodist University and completed a Social Media and Digital Communication Certificate under social media expert Professor Steve Lee, APR.

The first year I took on a wide range of clients as most social media managers tend to do when stepping into the fast lane. I quickly realized the focus needed to shift to only clients who want to share an experience with the public. 

The story to be told was that of the client and the audience.  A million moments that human beings translate through perspective, time, emotion, and technology.  Capturing as many of those moments as possible, in an organic real-time manner, is a pure form of storytelling.  Every story was unique and I love them all. 

Recently, the previously mentioned Executive Director delivered to my office an award that they received at the Texas Festivals & Events Association annual conference.  It is the 2016 Kaliff Marketing Award for Best Social Media over $750,000 presented to Plano Balloon Festival, Inc. for the InTouch Credit Union Plano Balloon Festival.

It is humbling to have the one, who told you to jump, be the same person waiting with a smile when you safely land.  I am eternally grateful that so many women, have over the years, helped shape my career.  I love my job and the story that brought me to it. 

Since 2015, I've had the privilege of additionally managing social channels and on-site coverage for Wildflower! Arts and Music Festival and Cottonwood Art Festival.  The folks with the City of Richardson and their Parks and Recreation department truly strive for family friendly events that the surrounding communities can experience.

There were 18 wine samplings on the route at the Downtown Plano Art & Wine Walk held Thursday, September 14, 2017. And while The League Lady did not partake in the liquid tastings because we have three events in the next three weeks, it was an interesting event to attend for the first time. As a marketing agency, we think that Simple Booth outshined the 80's band, tasting notes, and shop discounts. In fact, hundreds of people took pause to stand in front of the nearly blinding HALO light that also happens to create a glowing complexion for all posers.

The JORDAN GREENWOOD: Collecting Experience And Creating Stories

Ever since I was young I have had a passion for creating stories. When I was very little it began with playing make believe, and by middle school I was writing my own fiction as a means of creative expression and escapism. At that time, I had thought I’d pursue a career in theater or film, but of course as we get older we change and I chose to pursue Marketing at Texas Tech University instead. Even though I knew I was on the right path, as I began to wrap up my junior year in the spring, I was plagued with the question: what do I want to do with my degree?
